In Review: Bioré Blemish Fighting Ice Cleanser

Let’s start off by saying this was the first time I used a product from the Biore’line. I really had high hopes for this product initially. Once I opened it I loved the clean citrus smell it had but unfortunately I regret to say for this particular product I give it the “two snaps up….hated it!!”

This cleanser claims to help stop blemishes before they start by targeting and removing over 99% of dirt and oil that can cause them, so you’re left with clear skin. While this cleanser claims to do these things they left out some major warnings  …check them out below….

Warning #1: This product is medicinally extremely potent! On the labeling there is only mention under warnings of possibility of increased dryness and increased irritation if you use it along with another topical acne medication.  However, this product is so potent that you will have horrible dryness and irritation using this one product alone. Minutes after I washed my face with this product my skin became so dried out and irritated that I was plunging through my facial products for some moisturizer to soothe my skin. This cleanser is also described  as a feeling of an ice cleanser. Please note that it’s so irritating that there is no cooling effect it more so feels like a light burning sensation.

Warning#2: This product is definitely not for you if you have sensitive skin!!  Do not think about using this product if you have sensitive prone skin. It will be an ultimate disaster! Keep in mind that people who suffer from acne-prone or sensitive skin types that have especially reactive skin can benefit from using a cleanser that’s chemical-free.
Be Aware of your products ingredients:
Warning#3: This product contains at least two well- known harmful chemicals and honorable mentions that we can’t help but advise you to probably stay away from. And with the major irriation that I felt on my skin I had to take a deeper look at the ingredients listed…  See below.

A.     Parabens- These estrogen-mimickers have been found in breast tumors, linked to breast cancer, reproductive disorders and known to cause upset of hormonal activity in the body. They can be found in deodorants, lotions, eye shadows, shampoos, facial cleansers, body washes, facial moisturizers, etc. Often listed as methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, butylparaben, isobutylparaben,

Parabens are chemicals used as preservatives, and that’s why they are found in so many products. They are used to fight bacteria and fungus, are widely available, and cost very little to manufacture and use. Nearly all of the parabens used as preservatives are man-made and not naturally occurring. Because there have been studies that say they are potentially dangerous and  have linked parabens to cancer, one should choose to take the precautionary route and not use products containing them.

B.     Sodium Lauryl Sulfates- This commonly found chemical has been shown to cause severe changes to the skin, though studies linking them to cancer are still debatable. SLS is a known skin irritant, it emits toxic fumes when heated, and helps other chemicals get in your body among other things. SLS can be found in toothpastes, shampoos, facial cleansers, body wash, acne treatments, exfoliants, moisturizers, hair color/bleach, etc. Often listed as sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, sulfuric acid, monodecyl ester and monododecyl ester.

Retail Price :

This product normally retails around $6 to $7 dollars.

Surprisingly I was shocked  to learn that this product had made it to Allure Magazine’s Best of Beauty List in 2008 and 2009. What’s even more interesting is the statement listed below is why they said they liked this product:

This cleanser is an Allure favorite for breakout-prone skin. The salicylic acid formula is potent, but the fresh scent and soothing ingredients like lavender keep it from feeling medicinal. ~ Allure Magazine from http://www.allure.com/beauty-products/skin/2010/biore-blemish-fighting-cleanser

There it is in red guys…That’s all you need right there…no reading anything after that. The claims of the fresh scent and soothing ingredient such as lavender does nothing to take away the amount of irritation and extreme  dryness you will have in using this product. I do understand that everyone has different skin types and everything does not work as well for some than others but the fact that I have experienced this potent formula first hand and the fact that even Allure has stated the potency as well…. believe me, you would be better off spending your hard earned dollars on something  else.

Since this is the first experience I have had with Biore products I would love to hear from my readers which products you guys have tried from this company and your experience with them.   And just because my experience with this one particular product in their line didn’t work all that well doesn’t mean that I wouldn’t be open to trying something else, considering the ingredients - ofcourse!!
Hope this review was helpful.

Till next time loves…
